Sideways PDFs usually arrive in groups. A sheet-feed scanner that pulled a stack in the wrong way round, a phone scanning app that guessed the orientation wrong all afternoon, a set of spreadsheets exported in landscape that open on their side — the fix is the same quarter turn, repeated on every file.
The Rotate PDF tool applies that turn to a whole batch at once. Choose the angle, optionally limit it to certain pages, and every file is fixed in one run, losslessly and without uploading anything.
How to rotate many PDFs at once
- Open ihatepdf.cv/rotate-pdf.
- Select or drop all the PDFs together. With more than one file the tool switches to batch mode.
- Choose the rotation: 90° right, 180° or 90° left.
- Optionally type the pages to rotate, such as "2-3" or "1, 5-". Leave it blank to rotate every page.
- Press "Rotate N files" and download them all as a ZIP. Each file is saved as
name_rotated.pdf.
Rotation adds to what each page already has
PDF pages carry their own rotation setting. A page that is already turned 90° and is rotated another 90° ends up at 180°. That is almost always what you want — "turn these the right way up" — but it matters when the files in a batch were wrong in different ways. If some scans came out turned left and others turned right, one batch cannot fix both. Sort them by how they look, then run one batch with 90° right and another with 90° left. A quick way to sort is to open each in your file manager's preview, or to export the first page of each as a thumbnail.
Rotating only some pages in every file
The page list is applied to each file separately, which handles a surprisingly common situation: a set of reports where the cover is portrait but pages 2 and 3 are a landscape table, or application packs where the last page is always a sideways form. Ranges work as you would expect:
2-3rotates pages 2 and 3 of every file.1, 5-rotates page 1 and everything from page 5 to the end.-2rotates the first two pages.
Pages beyond the end of a shorter file are simply ignored, so the same list is safe on files of different lengths.
Why batch rotation is lossless
Rotating a PDF page does not redraw it. The tool changes the page's rotation setting and leaves its content alone, so text stays selectable and searchable, images keep their exact quality, and the file size barely changes. Every PDF reader and printer honours that setting, so the pages look and print the right way up everywhere. Tools that rotate by rendering the page to an image and turning the picture are slower and throw away the text layer.
Fixing orientation at the source
If the same scanner produces sideways files every week, it is worth five minutes to stop the problem rather than fix it each time. Most document scanners and copiers have an auto-rotate or auto-orientation setting that detects the direction of text and turns each page upright; it is often off by default. Sheet feeders also have a preferred direction — usually top edge first, face down — printed on the tray. Phone scanning apps generally follow the phone's orientation, so locking screen rotation while scanning a stack keeps every page consistent.
Rotation fixes quarter turns, not skew
Rotating works in steps of 90°. A page that went through the feeder slightly crooked — tilted by a few degrees — is a different problem called skew, and turning it by a quarter does not help. Mild skew is cosmetic and does not stop OCR from working well. Badly skewed pages are best rescanned with the paper guides snug against the sheets.
When files need different fixes
Batch rotation is for a repeated fix. When each file needs individual attention — page 4 upside down here, page 9 sideways there — open it on its own in Rotate PDF, which shows every page as a thumbnail so you can turn pages individually. To rotate and reorder at the same time, use Organize Pages.
Rotate, or flip?
Rotating turns the page and keeps text readable. Flipping mirrors it, so text reads backwards — which is exactly what iron-on transfers and screen printing need. Flip PDF also works on batches (why and when to mirror a PDF).
Before OCR, rotate
OCR reads upright text. If a batch of scans is going to be made searchable, straighten it first and then run batch OCR; recognition on sideways pages is poor or fails outright.
Frequently asked questions
Can I rotate multiple PDF files at once?
Yes. On ihatepdf.cv/rotate-pdf, select or drop several PDFs, choose the angle and press Rotate. Every file is rotated in one run and you download them all as a ZIP.
Can I rotate only certain pages in each file?
Yes. Type a page list such as "2-3" or "1, 5-" and only those pages are rotated in every file. Pages beyond the end of a shorter file are ignored.
Does rotating reduce quality?
No. Rotation changes a setting on the page rather than redrawing it, so text, images and file size are unchanged.
Why did some pages end up upside down?
Rotation adds to each page's existing rotation. If files were turned different ways, sort them and rotate each group with its own angle.
Will the rotation stick when I print or email the files?
Yes. The rotation is saved in the PDF itself, so every reader and printer shows the pages the right way up.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Rotation happens in your browser and the files never leave your device.
