Free, no account, no subscription, and your billing data never leaves your device.
This is where small businesses most often fall foul of the rules, and it is easily avoided. An invoice serial number must be consecutive, must be unique within the financial year, and may not exceed sixteen characters — letters, numbers, hyphens and slashes only. It must not restart mid-year or contain gaps, because gaps in a sequence are exactly what an audit looks for. A common workable pattern is a short prefix, the financial year, and a running count: INV/25-26/0001. Start a fresh sequence on the first of April each year and keep it unbroken, including for cancelled invoices, which should be marked cancelled rather than deleted from the sequence.
The single most common GST error on a manually prepared invoice is charging the wrong tax type, and it comes from confusing the customer's address with the place of supply. For goods, the place of supply is generally where the goods are delivered; for most services it is the recipient's location. If that place is in the same state as your registration, the tax splits into CGST and SGST at half the rate each. If it is a different state, you charge IGST at the full rate. The total the customer pays is identical either way, which is why the error goes unnoticed until returns are filed and the mismatch surfaces. Entering both states accurately lets the tool apply the split for you.
An invoice contains your GSTIN, your customer's GSTIN, your prices, your margins and a running picture of your turnover. Handing that to a free cloud invoicing service means an unfamiliar company holds a complete commercial record of your business, and free tiers are usually free because that data has value. Here nothing is transmitted and nothing is stored on a server; the invoice is assembled and rendered in your browser and downloaded to your machine. There is no account to lose access to, no subscription to lapse at an inconvenient moment, and no vendor holding your billing history hostage.
A valid GST tax invoice must include: the supplier's name, address, and GSTIN; the invoice number and date; the recipient's name, address, and GSTIN (for B2B transactions); a description of goods or services with HSN/SAC codes; quantity and value; the applicable GST rate and tax amount (CGST + SGST for intra-state, IGST for inter-state); and the total invoice value. ihatepdf's GST Invoice Generator includes all mandatory fields and calculates all tax amounts automatically.
Open ihatepdf.cv/gst-invoice, enter your business details, your customer's details and the line items. CGST, SGST and IGST are calculated automatically based on whether the supply is intra-state or inter-state, an HSN/SAC summary is generated, and you download a compliant Tax Invoice as a PDF. Free, no account, no subscription, and your billing data never leaves your device.
Under the CGST Rules an invoice needs: the supplier's name, address and GSTIN; a consecutive serial number for the financial year; the date of issue; the recipient's name, address and GSTIN where registered; the HSN or SAC code; a description, quantity and taxable value for each item; the rate and amount of CGST, SGST, IGST or cess; the place of supply; whether tax is payable on reverse charge; and a signature or digital signature. The generator prompts for each of these.
It depends on the place of supply. If the supplier and the place of supply are in the same state, the tax splits into CGST and SGST at half the total rate each. If they are in different states — or the supply is an export or to an SEZ — IGST applies at the full rate. Entering the correct state on both sides makes the tool apply the right split automatically.
The format is checked — 15 characters, with the first two digits being the state code, ten characters of PAN, an entity number, a fixed letter and a check digit. That catches typos and transposed characters. It confirms the number is well-formed, not that it is currently active, so verify status on the GST portal for a new customer.
It depends on turnover. Businesses above the prescribed turnover threshold must report HSN codes for goods and SAC codes for services, at either four or six digits depending on the slab. The generator produces an HSN/SAC summary table alongside the invoice.
A composition dealer cannot collect GST and must issue a Bill of Supply rather than a Tax Invoice, with the prescribed declaration instead of a tax breakdown. This tool generates a Tax Invoice, so it fits a regular registered supplier; a composition dealer should adapt the output accordingly.
No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is transmitted or retained on any server. There is no account, so there is no database holding your customer list, your turnover or your invoice history.
No, and the distinction matters. E-invoicing requires businesses above the notified turnover threshold to report invoices to the Invoice Registration Portal and obtain an IRN and signed QR code. This tool produces a compliant printed Tax Invoice document; it does not register invoices with the IRP. If you are within the e-invoicing mandate you must also report through the portal.
