It is worth understanding exactly what this tool does, because most tools claiming to redact do something much weaker. When you click Apply, every page carrying a redaction box is rendered to a canvas at high resolution, the boxes are filled with solid black over the rendered pixels, and that flattened result is embedded as a new page. The original page object — with its text, its fonts, its extractable character data — is discarded and never copied into the output. Pages you did not draw on are passed through untouched, so an unredacted page keeps its selectable text, its links and its file size. The trade-off is deliberate and it is the right one: on a page where you have removed something, you get certainty that it is gone, at the cost of that page becoming an image.
Open the finished PDF and try to select text over a redacted area — you should get nothing. Search the document for one of the words you removed; it should return no results. Check the file size, and compress it if a portal has a limit. If the document also needs to stay searchable, run OCR on the redacted output. And finally, run the privacy scanner: redaction removes what was visible on the page, but a document can still carry the author's name, the original filename, editing history and other metadata that has nothing to do with the page content.
