Most "PDF editors" cheat: they cover the old text with a white box and stamp new text on top in Helvetica, which is why edited lines suddenly look wrong. ihatepdf reads the actual text run out of the PDF — its embedded font, point size, weight, colour, and exact x/y position — and re-renders your replacement using that same font at that same position. Standard PDF base fonts (Helvetica, Arial, Times New Roman, Courier, Georgia, Verdana) are matched one-to-one; unusual embedded fonts fall back to the nearest metric-compatible match so the line keeps its width and rhythm instead of reflowing. The result is an edit you cannot spot: the same font, the same layout, no watermark, and no conversion to Word in between.
A scanned document has no text layer, so ordinary PDF editors can only let you draw a box on top of it. When ihatepdf opens a page and finds no text, it automatically runs OCR (Tesseract, compiled to WebAssembly and executed inside your browser) and converts the recognised words into editable items. You then click any word and retype it exactly as you would with a native PDF. Words the OCR engine was unsure about are highlighted so you can verify them before downloading. This means scanned contracts, marksheets, certificates, old invoices, and photographed forms are all editable — free, with no upload and no separate OCR step.

The traditional approach to editing a PDF was to convert it to Word, make edits, then re-export as PDF. This routinely breaks formatting — especially on designed CVs, forms, invoices, and anything with columns or tables. ihatepdf's inline editor changes the text inside the original PDF, so the layout, fonts, images, and page structure are untouched by definition. There is no conversion step to lose fidelity in, and no round-trip through a second file format.
Signing PDFs digitally avoids printing, signing by hand, and scanning. ihatepdf's signature tool gives you three options: draw your signature with a mouse or finger, type your name in a handwriting-style font, or upload a photo of your handwritten signature. If you upload a photo, the tool separates the ink from the paper automatically — shadows, off-white paper, and uneven phone-camera lighting are removed so only a clean transparent signature is placed on the page.
