Convert Excel spreadsheets (.xlsx, .xls, .xlsm, .csv) to professionally formatted PDFs — free, with no file upload. Preserves images, charts, cell colors, merged cells, borders, and all formatting. Conversion runs entirely in your browser using SheetJS and jsPDF via WebAssembly.
To convert Excel to PDF free, read the workbook's styling and render each sheet as a page. On ihatepdf, upload an XLSX, XLS, XLSM or CSV file and download a PDF with cell colours, merged cells, borders, fonts, images and charts preserved — free, with no sign-up and no watermark. Your spreadsheet is never uploaded to a server.
Most converters read a spreadsheet through a general-purpose library that exposes cell values and a little else. Fill colours may survive; fonts, borders, alignment and theme colours frequently do not, which is why so many converted spreadsheets come out as plain black text on white with the design stripped away. The formatting in an .xlsx file lives in separate style and theme definitions inside the archive, and reproducing the sheet faithfully means reading those definitions directly rather than trusting a library's simplified view. That is the difference between a PDF that looks like your spreadsheet and one that merely contains the same numbers.
The tension is structural: a sheet extends indefinitely to the right, a page does not. Three things help, roughly in order of effect. Landscape orientation buys about forty percent more width immediately. Hiding columns that are not needed in the output usually helps more than any setting, because most working spreadsheets carry internal IDs, timestamps and helper columns that nobody reading the report needs. And shortening header labels matters more than it sounds — a long header is often the widest cell in its column and drags the whole column wider than the data requires.
Sharing Excel files requires the recipient to have Excel or compatible software to view them correctly. PDFs display identically on every device. Finance teams convert budget spreadsheets to PDF before distributing to stakeholders. Accountants convert invoice templates to PDF for client distribution. Data analysts convert reports to PDF for management presentations where formulas should not be visible or editable. Sales teams convert pricing tables to PDF to prevent modification.
Upload your .xlsx, .xls, .xlsm or .csv file at ihatepdf.cv/excel-to-pdf and each sheet is rendered as PDF pages with its formatting intact. Free, no sign-up, no watermark, and the workbook is never uploaded.
Yes. The workbook's own style definitions are read directly from the file rather than relying on a generic parser, so fill colours, font choices, bold and italic, borders, alignment and theme colours all come through as they appear in Excel.
Yes, embedded charts and images are rendered into the PDF along with the cell content.
This is the most common issue converting spreadsheets, because a sheet scrolls indefinitely and a page does not. Use landscape orientation, hide columns that do not need to appear in the output, and shorten long header labels — headers are frequently the widest cells and force whole columns wider than the data needs.
Yes. Each sheet is converted in turn so the whole workbook becomes a single PDF, in the sheet order of the original file.
The calculated values are what appear in the PDF, which is what you want for a document — a PDF is a fixed record, so it shows results rather than the formulas that produced them.
No. Parsing and PDF generation both run in your browser. Spreadsheets routinely contain salary data, customer lists and financial records, which is precisely the category of file that should not be handed to an online converter.
Yes. Cell background colors, text colors, borders, merged cells, bold/italic text, and number formatting are all preserved in the PDF output.
Yes. PNG, JPEG, GIF, BMP, and WebP images are extracted from the XLSX and embedded at their correct positions in the PDF.
No. All processing runs locally in your browser using SheetJS, JSZip, and jsPDF. Your file never leaves your device.
Yes. Upload a .csv file and it will be converted to a formatted PDF table with column headers and row data.
Each worksheet is converted to a separate section of the PDF, allowing all sheets to be included in one document.
